On “Neal Cavuto’s April 21, 2005 Common Sense segment, he said the following:

Here’s a newsflash: The pope is Catholic.

I say that because so many seem to forget that — seemingly demanding Pope Benedict XVI be something he is not.

Well, here’s another news update: He will never be for abortion. He will never be for euthanasia. And if you ever say the Catholic Church should be a democracy, he will never say it is. Because it isn’t.

Most Catholics know that. A lot of Catholics hate that. But I think we’d all be wise to get over that. Because of this: The pope is here to espouse not the whims of our times, but the values that stand the test of time.

Some can quibble over whether priests should marry or laypeople should be more involved. The church evolves on such matters.

But on basic matters — matters of life and death, right and wrong — there are no ifs, ands or buts.

On these matters, any pope — including this pope — stands firm. As so he should.

Well, Cathy had found an interesting site she pointed out to me – The Cardinal Ratzinger Fan Club. From that site, she found a quote and mentioned it to me. Korean War Memorial Parade and Dedication

Saturday, September 18, 2004 brought people and bands from across the State of South Dakota to Pierre for the Korean War Memorial parade and dedication. Rapid City Stevens was one of the high school bands that participated in the parade and dedication ceremonies. At the end of the dedication ceremony, 26,000 balloons, each one representing a South Dakotan who served in the Korean War, was released.

MMA Concert

Tonight we attended the Music Ministry Alive (MMA) Festival “Sing!” which is the closing concert of MMA performed by the kids attending. Once again it was a very good concert put on by a group of very talented and gifted kids.

In the first photo, you can see all the kids that participate in this program. Cathy is on the right end of the second row. In the second photo is just a close up of Cathy. And in the third, she is playing her Sax during “How Can We Be Silent?” by Michael Mahler.

Mount Rushmore (with Matt & Grandpa)

The past four days have been busy for me. Dad rode along with Barb and her kids for a visit to the Black Hills. Saturday was spent in Rapid City. After attending a parade that Cathy marched in, we went to Dinosaur Park, Chapel on the Hill, and Storybook Island. Sunday included a drive through Vanocker Canyon, finding Dad’s brother Rich’s new house in Sturgis, Old MacDonald’s Farm, and then Flintstone Village in Custer. Monday was the northern tour of Deadwood (Mt. Moriah cemetery), Lead, Spearfish Canyon (Roughlock Falls, Spearfish Falls), Spearfish, Wyoming (cross the border so the kids could say they have been in the state) and a dip in the pool. Tuesday consisted of the 1880 Train, Needles Highway, Mount Coolidge, Wildlife Loop (saw lots of buffalo), Iron Mountain Road (tunnels and pig tales are fun), and of course no visit to the Black Hills is complete without a visit to Mount Rushmore.
