About

Welcome to sasses.net

I started this site in the late 1990’s mainly to learn about programing for the web. The site has gone through many variations, but the main purpose has been to make it easy for me to get to the places I often visit, and to share information with family and friends. Over time, I’ve had information on many different sites and in many different formats. With the latest update to the site, I am trying to consolidate all that information into a more uniform appearance and a single location.

About the photo

The photo on the top was taken by me from the trail off of Heddy Draw, south east of Mt. Coolidge in Custer State Park. Depending on the size of your monitor, it goes from Crazy Horse Memorial on the left all the way to Mount Rushmore on the right, with the Needles and Harney Peak in between. At some point, I’ll add a bit more detail that will better point out those in the photo.

About me

I’ve been in the computer industry pretty much my entire working career. When I was in college, working toward a degree in chemistry, I decided I should learn a little about computers being I figured they would be useful in my career. But after that first class, I was hooked. I switched degrees and have had a wide variety computer related jobs. This include programming (Pascal, Cobol, JCL, CICS, Fortran, Basic, Assembler), ordering, assembling & installing operating systems & software, help desk, training (Smartware, Wordperfect, Office, DB2 SQL), systems integration, software distribution, manager overseeing email, intranet & internet sites, LAN, WAN, SAN, project management, etc.

My first computer was an IBM PC, that I purchased in 1983. It was my most expensive computer I’ve ever purchased and it came with a whopping 1 MB of memory and two single side floppy disks. My first hard rive was a humongous 10 MB – yes, that is right MB. My kids have been around computers their entire life. There are pictures of my daughter sitting on my lap while I worked on the computer. My kids have had their own computer since their early teens. They even manage to show me a new thing every now and then. Between my kids, my wife, and I, we have 12 working computers. And yes, there are a few old ones that need to be donated.
